Wreck Diving

MAJOR GENERAL ROGERS: This 130 foot Coast Guard Buoy Tender went aground in rough weather about 25 years ago off the coast of St. Thomas. She presently sits in 65 feet of water about a mile off St. Thomas' north shore. The hull is fully intact and encrusted with orange tube sponges, lavender rope sponges, turtle grass anemones and the list goes on. The area is susceptible to currents, occasionally turning the site into an advanced dive. We recommend that divers warm up on another site previous to diving the General Rogers.

WRECK OF THE RHONE: Lying in three distinct sections (bow, midsection and stern) west of Salt Island, this 310 foot twin-masted steamer is regarded as a classic among wreck dives.  She sits in depths ranging from 20 feet at the shallow stern to 90 feet at the deepest bow section.  Marine life around the wreck is abundant, and you’ll see lots of hard and soft coral growth throughout the ship’s structure.

Join us aboard the “Blast” for a trip up Sir Francis Drake channel while enjoying a continental breakfast.  Our first dive will be on the bow section which is the largest and most intact section of the wreck.  The 150 foot section rests on tits starboard side.  The mast and crow’s nest are still attached to the ship.  You’ll see the ship’s large bowsprit and the rigging that once hoisted the mast.  Look for the large entrance hatch with its door wide open.  The side of the ship is dotted with many portholes.  During our surface interval we will enjoy a deli style lunch.  For our second dive we will explore the stern and mid sections, where you will see the coral-encrusted propeller housing.  Look for the lucky port hole which divers have rubbed clean and now has a bright shine.

We return to the Westin dock around 3:00-3:30pm.

PLEASE NOTE FOR THE RHONE:  Due to new regulations by the U.S. Department of State and the Homeland Security Department, starting December 31, 2006, all persons traveling to and from the Caribbean are required to have a passport for re-entry into the US.  Birth certificates with raised seals are no longer an acceptable from of documentation.
