How to Get Here: Everyone flies into the St. Thomas airport and catches a surrey bus or taxi to the St. John Ferry Dock in Red Hook. The trip takes about 25 minutes. The ferry from Red Hook on St. Thomas to Cruz Bay on St. John, leaves at regular intervals daily. This is a short 20 minute ride. For current pricing and schedules please check with Transportation Services or Varlack Ventures. Upon arrival in Cruz Bay, the friendliest people in the Eastern Caribbean will meet you. Taxis are plentiful and clean. Accommodations: There is a wide variety of accommodations available on St. John. The Westin Resort St.John is the premier hotel property on the island. There are National Park campgrounds; private homes and villa rentals are very popular. Maho Bay is renowned as one of the world's most popular eco-resorts, known for their luxury camping style and eco-tents. Groceries: The island has a variety of grocery stores, some small and quaint with specialty items, and some similar to the states, except smaller of course. Transportation: Due to the mountainous terrain, and the fact that we drive on the left, leaving the driving to the local taxis is usually the best idea. There are plenty of cabs around all the time, especially on the North Shore, and are always a good source of island history. However, rental cars are readily available as well as 8-10 passenger safari jeeps for groups and large families. Most rentals give a weekly discount if booked in advance so check it out before leaving home. During high season the cars are booked weeks ahead of time. Restaraunts: St. John features a wide selection of fun and unique outdoor dining experiences. From native Pates' and Johnny Cake stands, to fine Italian, International cuisine, pizza parlors, and 5 Star gourmet restaurants.
