St. John Beaches

Hawksnest Beach: A beautiful beach with a nice reef system just off the middle of the beach. Excellent shallow water snorkeling for kids and beginners. Covered picnic areas, restrooms, and public telephone.

Trunk Bay: With over a quarter mile of beautiful white sand, this is truly the showpiece beach of the National Park Service. There is a self-guided snorkel trail alongside the small island of Trunk Cay. Facilities include a snack bar/grill, souvenir shop, showers, restrooms, public telephones, and lifeguards.

Cinnamon Bay: Huge, wide beach with nice snorkeling around the offshore cay. Home of an archeological dig Sponsored by the VI Friends of the NPS. There is a campground here as well as a small grocery store, gift shop, windsurfing and sea kayak rentals, restrooms, and showers.

Maho Bay: Shallow water extends approximately 100 yards out from the shoreline. Mostly sand bottom with sea grass, this is a great bay for spotting turtles, rays, and tarpon. The beach is literally only a few feet from the road and easily accessible.

Frances Bay: Frances is a long, sandy beach with calm conditions. There is nice snorkeling here and is a popular bay among the St. John turtle population.

Reef Bay: This beach is reached via the Reef Bay Hiking Trail from Centerline Road. Great snorkeling on the reefs here, and there are some interesting ruins nearby.
